The International Cooperation Agency of the Association of Netherlands Municipalities (VNG) applied, together with the ReliefBase, Red Cross Netherlands and the Dutch Coalition for Humanitarian Innovation,
for a project under the EU “Madad Trust Fund in response to the Syrian Crisis” for a sanitation solution for refugee camps in Lebanon.
Technological innovation is required to provide adequate sanitation services in combination with on-site treatment. Therefore, the DCHI partners: Netherlands Red Cross, Cordaid and the Relief Base will, when funding is granted, develop and pilot an innovative and appropriate sanitary treatment and disposal solution together with other parties within the VNG project. The solution will be modular, have a capacity for waste water of approximately 10,000 people to be applied in the aftermath of natural disasters and refugee camps.
